Beatrix Potter is best known as the creator of a series of hugely popular children’s books published in the early twentieth century. Stories such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit and The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin have delighted adults and children for over a century. But, these books were just one aspect of the remarkable life of a woman who was not only a talented illustrator and writer but also a scientist, farmer and landowner who conserved large areas of the Lake District in the north of England. In this biography, we will look at Beatrix’s relationship with the Lakes, discover why she loved it so much, and examine how its unique landscape inspired her to create her wonderful animal tales.
