Oh my goodness. That was truly chilling. I love the way the reader's imagination saw all sorts of consequences and endings that didn't happen. A beautifully crafted story.
Spellbindingly horror riven… I read this whilst nursing a hot cup of coffee, and I too (like Paul M in comments), would have felt unnerved reading this late at night!
It is a good thing this came to me this morning because if I would have read it during the evening before bed, I would have laid in bed awake blaming you for a sleepless night. I scare very easily, ask my wife.
An excerpt from this story was used in this weekend’s Words and Music” on BBC Radio 3. I recognised it from the moment I read about the “scurrying black beetles” and that the sounds were coming not from downstairs but upstairs! It was chilling to hear on the radio and even more so to read. Thank you so much.
I think everyone secretly likes being frightened. I’m not one for horror, but I do love a good Victorian ghost story. Thanks for the cold thrill down my spine. 😊

What a joy! Read while waiting to pick up my daughter and I jumped when she opened the car door! A fantastic, spine chilling take. Thank you!

You’re welcome, Dorinda. A few days early, but I couldn’t wait 🎃

God almighty. I'm not in the better of that.

Oh, what a coincidence. I was considering posting some M.R. James, but I’ll save those for Christmas 🎃🎄
