What a brilliant biography of such a remarkable character! I remember reading your shorter bio on Carrington but this has sparked even more interest in her. Aside from her paintings, she sounds like a fascinating character. I love the photograph of her!

I spent many years studying the Bloomsbury group. None of the stories got to me near as much as Carrington and Strachey. Wonderful essay. I'd never seen the photograph of her at play before.

Yours is a very engaging, short biography of a very unconventional woman. I love looking at her paintings from time to time; I like especially her painting of Lytton Strachey and The Mill at Tidmarsh. And what an unusual love triangle she was involved in and how sad was it that the man she loved died.

I also enjoy the film Carrington.

An exhibition of her work is currently showing at Pallant House in Chichester and it has all of the above works (and more). What a wide range of styles she was able to paint in! I hadn’t appreciated her mastery before. Also showing the little video clip filmed at Ham Spray - seeing Lytton Strachey and Carrington in motion when you’ve only seen them in photographs is fascinating.

A near neighbour of my parents, a retired art teacher as it happens, was a distant relation of Carrington. Through her I found the fascinating volume of her letters and diaries, first published in 1970 and later translated reprinted at least a couple of times in the 70s.

She was so talented, one of my favorite painters in the group, and that last plaintive note after Lytton's death is wrenching. 💔

She was an incredible talent and it’s such a tragic love story.

I adore Carrington for being unapologetically herself in fashion and attitude. Sad that Strachey’s death triggered her own. Loneliness is a dark figure that steals away hope and reason, but I wish she had faced those shadows and recommitted herself to the adventure! Thank you for sharing her story!
