Hello Stewart, thank you for your comments, I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. He had such a tragically short life, but left a wonderful body of work. Of course, I’d be very happy for you to share it. You should be able to share it from a button at the bottom of the biography. Thank you so much for your interest and support! Victoria :)

Those lovely, evocative Thirties colours, and oh, how very sad, and yet unsurprising. I wondered why I hadn't heard of him before.

It is such a tragic, and as you say, unsurprising, story. But, what an incredible body of work he left behind.

I would like to share your essay with a closed group of family and friends either on Facebook or in a WhatsApp group. Am I allowed to do that?

Thank you very much for your essay. Before reading it, although I had seen some of his photographs and pictures at the RWA in Bristol, I knew nothing of his life. I had found his pictures a bit unusual due to seeming washed out somewhat, but now I am beginning to appreciate them more.

He seemed like very well balanced individual, a family man, who was working hard with his wife at his chosen profession. So it was very sad to hear how he had died and very poignant to read the long, but wonderfully detailed, last letter he had written to his wife.

That was very interesting to read about his life ,his work has such a distinctive gentleness about it . I have a calendar which features his beautiful paintings and drawings which is very lovely. I grew up in North Devon and his son James became a photographer and lived very close to us and he was a talented charming man and always kind and friendly.
