The best rooms have many books, a large, sunny window, and a dog.

Fascinating to 'enter' these English homes between the wars - so different from the paintings of interiors of that same period by the French 'intimistes' though it's lovely to sense the colour and lightness of touch in a few of these - especially in the William Orpen, Ethel Sands, Spencer Gore here.

Gunning King too, whom is a discovery - many thanks!

I love to look at the paintings on all the walls; as much of them as I can make out anyway. What is that mad one in the foreground of 'Kensington Interior', I wonder. It's a great collection.

I want to smell the furniture polish and flowers, hear the floorboards creak underfoot, look at the paintings on the walls, open doors and look out of the windows. Such a beautiful collection with tiny still lives contained within. Thank you!

They are! I have a real soft spot for interior paintings from this period - it’s a double treat: the style of the paintings and the beautiful design/architecture/furnishings within.

Hi Jane, thank you for your comment and subscription. It’s truly appreciated. How wonderful to have a Buttar original! Are you looking to learn more about his life? Or to find out more about the painting? Best wishes, Victoria

I'd love to do both - where to start on Buttar? Very happy to send you a photo of the painting if that is not an imposition.

Another painter at his prime mid war is Frederick Whiting. Put him on your list !
