I enjoyed that story. Yes, it displayed the casual, dismissive sexism of the time (have we really moved on that much?), but I enjoyed that Mrs Pentherby was in on the scheme and had the opportunity to ‘act up’ in ways she must have repressed for years! Very nicely done.
What a hilarious, twist, uttered with such complacency! I would not want to be present at such a house party, but I sure wouldn't mind seeing a movie of it. Thank you for this post, Victoria!
As others have said, the sexism is hard to look around. But Saki is such a deliciously talented writer. I enjoyed gems such as a character being described as "not blessed with the most reposeful of temperaments." It so beautifully matches the tone of the piece.

I’m glad you enjoyed it, Kathlyn 🤎
Saki's rapier wit on full display!
Thank you for reading, Homi ✨
I like Saki, and it's well constructed, though a last minute reveal.is always a bit annoying. But the sexism jars.
Aaaah the wonderful Saki! Thank you for posting this story. ❤️
Thank you for reading, Ruth 🧡

You’re very welcome, Marian. I’m so pleased you enjoyed it 🧡
It would make a fun short film (but I think it could get irritating if it went on too long) - maybe a sub plot for a series?
Excellent! 😂
Oh I love a bit of Saki and this was new to me. Great choice.
Thank you, Liz 🧡

I love Saki's work and Mrs Pentherby doesn't disappoint. Thanks for bringing her back to my mind.
Thank you, Christina 🤎
How glorious is Mrs Pentherby! A story of its time of course, but nonetheless amusing.
I’m so pleased you enjoyed it, June 🧡
