Thank you for this joyous collection. I’m fascinated by the last one, On the Beach. Is she a red-head trying to protect herself from the sun, who can’t resist taking off her coat and letting herself luxuriate in the sun? Is she starting to put on her coat and leave after sunning? Many stories there.
Thank you, Joan. I’m glad you enjoyed the post. Yes, there are so many ways to read the last image. I’ve always imagined she was leaving as the sun had become too strong…
What a beautiful collection of paintings. I wish I could paint. I used to ! Maybe I will again. The light in some of these. Is just glorious. Thank you.
Summer is the season I find the most difficult (I think it’s Nature’s moment of suspension…a bit like winter, but somehow even more suspended), but this great collection of words and pictures you’ve put together quite makes me look forward to it.
I look at the dates of the paintings, and give thought to what was happening in the world in that moment. How long after the Great War? How did this person find time to painting during WWII? All the inner lives of the people at the beach scenes....what a wonderfully varied collection.

Just looked through these again. It's a cold June day and I'm feeling wistful about this summer's misfire.
Yes, it sadly appears to be stuck in traffic somewhere. On the plus side, the lawn is looking lush! :)
